[Approved] – Working Group – Localization

Goal

Develop, document, review, publish, and maintain, quality localization features, such as: Payments and Fiscal Compliance. The priority being mandatory regional Fiscal Compliance Apps.

Why should the community care?

  • Common needs of all businesses
  • Expands the addressable market for everyone, and opens doors for competing with regional accounting apps
  • Marketing asset for the partner
  • Gives strong Go-to-Market (GTM) for the partner and the entire ecosystem of the country
  • Success Story: India, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, KSA, Egypt and UAE

Current Process

  • Check with partner and regional manager at Frappe for the need of compliance
  • Identify a partner who is interested in developing the application, or would be interested to develop
  • Share guidelines for building regional localisation - https://docs.frappe.io/cloud/guidelines-for-contributing-regional-localisation
  • Actively follow-up over email and call for the progress. Provider required technical and functional support.
  • Share example of the existing localisation application
  • Get partner to “open-source“ the app on Github
  • Get partner to publish on Marketplace
  • Ensure technical and functional review is done
  • Ensure Marketplace app is added to the FrappeCloud’s site creation flow

Following is the queue of localisation apps, being tracked by the Frappe team. It’s accessible only by the Frappe team.

Current process is limited to FC listing. There can be additional processes to maintain and grow apps with some local benchmarks in mind.

Can also extend to local payment gateways. (hence Localization rather than Local Compliance)

On the first sure. When we meet, let’s deliberate on that.

On the second, idea is this is really for, Fiscal Compliance Localizations, they being government mandated compliance. Local payment gateways, maybe their should be another working group. They can be numerous per country/region.

We Migeran are interested in this working group for the Hungarian Localization.

Why Localization?

  • Objective should be to support local features that easily come with any preferred accounting software for the country (starting with compliance of course).
  • Examples: m-pesa for Africa.
  • Existing framework / processes for this group looks generic, and easy to help or encourage existing countries to work on this. However, compliance could surely get first push. This can be more of a push to existing countries, where compliance is settling and getting traction.

Suggested this as lending was already added as part of the goal.

This was just a suggestion. Happy to exclude it.

Agreed @Smit_Vora. Along with Payment Integration, HR localisation is also something partners keep developing.

I have been working with partners on this front for couple of years now. I see that development and maintenance isn’t that big an effort. Rather, convincing and incentivising partners to start developing the app, and getting it published is the harder part. After publishing, partners themselves see the value, and continue to maintain it.

Hence, from this Working Group, my need would be to see how we motivate the existing partners who are developing, maintain a list of WIP apps, and incentivize their efforts (visibility?), and share their success stories. This shall motivate others in the community to take-up localisation apps for their regions and contribute.

How do we move forward on this proposal? Those who are interested can express their concerns and objections here. Also, we could plan a public call so plan the next step. In the Marketplace WG, the weekly calls has set-in pretty-well.
