I think this is the same issue as found here
To resolve this, the the setup.py file and correct
install_requires = f.read().strip().split('
')
to
install_requires = f.read().strip().split('\n')
After that, push your new app to github, delete the local app/yourapp folder, then run
$ bench get-app https://github/yourname/yourapp.git
$ bench install-app yourapp
