Custom Search Field not working properly

Hi !
from customize from i add a field in search fields but it didn’t take effect

In the first image it shows the email address in the when searching but when i put the email address like testing@ it shows the new customer kind of thing but i want to search customer based on their email address.

Can anyone help me through this how can i resolve this ?
Any kind of suggestion will be very helpful.

Customer as link field: searching fields and the shape

Hello; What is the story of using Customer as link field? I selected in the customize form the searching field to be based on the phone field but when I do search (while I am selecting the customer), I do not find any customer. This situation is not existed with Customer link field in sales order and sales invoice but when I add Customer as link field in any other doctype, I do not see the search fields has any value (also I do not see any of these fields in the drop down).
