Yes, you can have spaces in item code. Check the example in the screenshots below.

Apologies for the previous response. The Item Code field is a data field, so it will allow spaces. For validation against spaces, you can write a custom script for the same. Check this link: https://docs.erpnext.com/docs/user/manual/en/customize-erpnext/custom-scripts
