Feature Request – Advanced Chat Functionality in Frappe / ERPNext

Hello Frappe Team,

We are currently using Frappe / ERPNext for internal team communication. While the built-in chat feature is helpful for basic messaging, we would like to request enhancements to support more advanced communication features.

Currently, the chat system does not support:

  1. Reply to a specific message (threaded reply)

  2. Edit sent messages

  3. @Mention / Tag a specific user

  4. Message reactions

  5. Improved notification control

  6. Better mobile sync experience

For growing teams, especially in operations-heavy environments, these features are essential for structured communication and accountability.

Could you please clarify:

  • Is there any technical limitation in the current architecture that prevents these features?

  • Are there any plans to enhance the chat module in upcoming releases?

  • Is there a roadmap for advanced real-time communication features?

We believe improving the chat system would significantly enhance team collaboration within ERPNext and reduce dependency on external communication platforms.

We are currently using the Frappe Chat app integrated with ERPNext v15 for internal team communication on our ERP system.

While it works well for basic messaging, we noticed some limitations that affect operational team collaboration, such as:

  • No threaded replies to specific messages

  • No message reactions

  • Limited @mention capabilities

  • Basic notification control

  • Limited message history navigation

Hi, which app are you using right now? Can you share the link to the Github repository?

We recommend using Raven (https://ravenchat.ai) now. It’s a dedicated chat app integrated with ERPNext.
