How make Asset Movement also modify Stock Ledger

I have fixed assets which move between entities as stock transfers. But, Fixed Asset Movement doesnt maintain stock ledgers. I was tole in Asset Settings we can enable setting. I dont see Asset Settings at all. Below are the modules I have and enabled assets, buying, selling, stock, desk etc for Procurement and Selling. looks like Asset Settings not available for me.

Hi @anilpoda

There is no such thing as Asset Settings in ERPNext. It is all in Accounts Setting where you can enable Auto Depreciation Functions along with pro rating on total age in days. Asset Category controls depreciation and accounting of assets particularly.

Since Assets are not tradable items does not require to be accounted under stock ledger. Fixed Asset Register is there to replace stock ledger.

You can only move an asset and turn into stock item by working with Asset Capitalization where entry type has to be Decapitalization.

You need to use Asset Movement if you’d like to change assignment or location type details of the asset.

Move Asset Between Companies Without Changing Asset Code (Fresh Depreciation in New Company)

I'd like to request a feature enhancement that allows transferring an asset from… one company to another without changing the asset code, while resetting depreciation in the new company and maintaining historical traceability. Use Case In our multi-company ERPNext setup, assets sometimes need to be transferred (sold) from one company to another for operational or organizational reasons. Currently: We need to dispose of the asset in one company and create a new one in the other. The asset code must change. The link between the two is lost unless manually tracked. Depreciation history is fragmented. Proposed Feature A "Transfer to Another Company" action on the Asset form. The same asset code should be retained in the destination company for traceability. Depreciation in the new company should start fresh, as per new settings. The system should: Automatically dispose of the asset in the first company (as sold). Create a new asset in the second company with a linked reference to the old one. Allow the new company to set depreciation method/term. All logs and links should be auditable for historical reference. Benefits Maintains consistency and traceability of assets. Reflects real-world inter-company transfers more accurately. Saves manual effort and ensures clean audit trails. Let me know if there’s a current workaround, or if this can be considered for a future release.
