How to connect sub-assembly serial numbers with finished item serial numbers

I have been discussing the same issue with @Suresh_Thakor. Here is the exchange, for the record:

I apologize for being unclear:

BOM :

1. 1 serial numbered 1 litre bottle
2. 500ml Chemical A
3. 300ml Chemical B
4. 200ml Chemical C

Resultant products:

1. 1 serial numbered 1 litre bottle
2. 1 litre of batch numbered Chemical D

Physically the customer gets a litre of chemical, with a batch number, in a serial numbered bottle.

Logically, within ERPNext, a delivery note hands off the batch numbered litre of chemical to the customer, while a material transfer moves the serial numbered bottle to a “customer consignment” warehouse location. When the customer returns the physical bottle a material transfer moves it to a pre-production warehouse location.

I am racking my brains for the right way to handle this.

As I understand it, a production step can only result in quantities of a single produced item and all items sent into production simply cease to exist as they become a part of the produced item. If that’s the case then I suppose we’ll need to have production of Chemical D cause a material transfer of bottles from pre-production to finished goods.

Resultant Product should be only batch Item as 1 litre of batch numbered Chemical D.

When customer return not used serial numbered bottle then it will become Material Return.

So, yes:

1. I understand that the resultant product should only be Chemical D, but we require that it have the same serial number as the empty bottle.
2. The idea of using a customer consignment warehouse location was to avoid Sales Invoices and Credit Returns. Invoices and credit notes are legal documents which must be declared to tax authorities, electronically, every single time.
