How to Update BOM Items After a Completed Work Order Without Creating a New BOM Version?

Hi everyone,

I have a manufacturing workflow question in ERPNext.

I created a BOM, used it to create a Work Order, and successfully completed the production. Now I need to change some of the raw materials (items and quantities) in the same BOM for future production.

However, I do not want to create a duplicate/amended/new version of the BOM. I want to continue using the same BOM record.

My requirements are:

  • Previously completed Work Orders and Stock Entries should remain unchanged.

  • Past production history and costing should not be affected.

  • Only future Work Orders should use the updated BOM items.

  • I don’t want to maintain multiple BOM versions for the same finished item.

Is there any standard ERPNext approach to achieve this, or would it require customization?

If customization is required, what would be the recommended approach to ensure past manufacturing records remain intact while allowing future production to use the updated BOM?

When you are manufacturing , when it fetches require raw materials for production on that stage at that table you can change raw materials

You can play with raw material items if you do not set highlighted checkbox in manufacturing setting
