I would like to contribute to the project by adding Catalan Language

I would like to add Catalan language to ERPNext. Catalan from Catalonia, Spain. I have Crowdin account but I would apreciate a lot some tip or advice! Thank you.

Hi @Salvatella

Please, @rmeyer can you look at this?
Thanks.

Hi @Salvatella - are you still keen on doing this? If yes, are you on Crowdin?

The total number of Catalan speakers is over 9.8 million (2011), with 5.9 million residing in Catalonia. More than half of them speak Catalan as a second language, with native speakers being about 4.4 million of those (more than 2.8 in Catalonia). Very few Catalan monoglots exist; basically, virtually all of the Catalan speakers in Spain are bilingual speakers of Catalan and Spanish, with a sizable population of Spanish-only speakers […] existing in the major Catalan urban areas as well. – Wikipedia

So I think there’s not really a point in this. Your time would be better spent improving the Spanish translation, helping 600 million speakers and not burdening the maintainers with niche local languages.

If you care a lot about this, you can ship a “Catalan” app that offers this language, possibly along with other local features.

I don’t think the number of speakers alone should decide this. If someone is actually willing to translate and maintain Catalan, that’s a pretty different situation from asking the maintainers to do the work.

The separate app idea sounds like a reasonable middle ground though if adding another language to core creates too much maintenance.

Hey thank you all for your time! I was exited to do the catalan version but if you say spanish need some fixes I would help to do that. The languages issues are on the git?

We use Crowdin for translations! @rmeyer @umair could help you with that

Translating is not the only part of the process. For example, I recently had to clean up Russian translations because someone messed up the encoding, I’m reviewing translation PRs every day (for technical correctness and HTML injection), translators raise questions for issues they encounter, etc. I cannot do this for every language in the world.
