Is ERPNext officially supported with PostgreSQL?

Hi everyone,

A few days ago, I came across a LinkedIn post from Rushabh Mehta mentioning that ERPNext can now be used with PostgreSQL.

That made me curious about the current status of PostgreSQL support in ERPNext v16.

Can ERPNext v16 with PostgreSQL now be confidently used for production-level workloads?

I would like to know whether PostgreSQL support is considered fully production-ready for ERPNext, or if there are still limitations / ongoing improvements compared to MariaDB.

Would appreciate insights from the community or core team.

Not in v16. Only develop/nightly for now.

it cannot be used in ERPNext but in frappe only but the moment you put ERPNext app its not supported

Version 16 is now seven months old.
Releases are spaced between one and one-and-a-half years apart.
Version 17 is expected to arrive sometime between this winter and next summer.
Perhaps official PostgreSQL support will be available for v17?

We’ve used PostgreSQL for the floor operations and the day to day needs while keeping the Frappe house on the default.

This type of setup actually provides a more robust in house management than most want to think - sure you have dual surfaces to manage, but the types of transactions especially now with AI, the deltas and comms portions are nill.

Just something to think about.

Please can you maintain a blog on the progress of this support. I have been tracking progress on github but still there are always unanswered questions.

I am sure like me many would like to start testing on postgres, but not sure how well it is supported as of now.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I’m curious if there have been any updates regarding PostgreSQL support in newer ERPNext versions. Has anyone tried the latest versions or noticed any improvements in production readiness? Would love to hear any recent experiences or insights!

  1. What would you say is the progress of this feature. (An Approximation would be great)
  2. What are the pending items that are left?
  3. What would be the timeline for completions of the tasks, to have full support of postgres. (Yes I understand there will be unknowns).
