Hello Community,
I would like to discuss how production rejections are handled in ERPNext Job Cards and whether others have faced similar challenges.
Currently, Job Cards provide ways to record completed quantities, and many discussions suggest using Scrap Qty or process loss for rejected quantities. However, in many manufacturing environments, rejected items are not necessarily scrap or process loss.
Consider the following example:
-
Input Quantity: 100
-
Good Quantity: 95
-
Rejected Quantity: 5
The 5 rejected pieces may:
-
Be sent for rework
-
Be held for quality review
-
Be returned to a previous operation
-
Be accepted under deviation after inspection
-
Be scrapped only after a final disposition decision
In such cases, the rejected quantity still physically exists and should not be treated as scrap or process loss immediately.
Some challenges with the current approach are:
-
Scrap Qty assumes the material is already scrapped.
-
Process loss assumes irreversible loss.
-
There is no standard way to record operation-level rejection quantities.
-
There is no built-in linkage between rejection, quality disposition, and rework flow.
A possible enhancement could be:
Job Card:
-
Completed Qty
-
Accepted Qty
-
Rejected Qty
Optional Rejection Details:
-
Rejection Reason
-
Defect Code
-
Disposition (Rework / Hold / Scrap / Accept As Is)
This would enable better manufacturing traceability and quality reporting without forcing users to classify all rejected quantities as scrap.
I would like to know:
-
How are other manufacturers handling operation-level rejections in ERPNext?
-
Are there existing implementations or customizations for this?
-
Would this be a useful enhancement for the core manufacturing module?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.
