PostgreSQL Support for ERPNext

Hi everyone,
We’re planning to work on PostgreSQL support for ERPNext and are looking for guidance and collaboration from the community. If you’re interested or have experience in this area, your input would be invaluable.

We’re referring to this PR as the starting point: #28359

Last I knew (March 2025), the maintainers had cancelled the idea of adding Postgres support. You can read all about it here.

Using PostgreSQL as a database for ERPNext

Postgres support is not updated anymore. If you need postgres you’ll need to send pr to support the latest lts. Any database that’ll be added by copying postgres code will be exact maintenance overhead like postgres. Every hacker in the community has a setup that was partly converted to oracle. It’s given up on after realising it is just copy-pasting code and renaming imports. It’ll only add code that’ll never be maintained in future. No official app is made using postgres.

I love Postgres. But advise you not to spend much time on this unless …

1. The maintainers have changed their minds (maybe they did, it’s hard to know what they’re thinking/doing)
2. You are willing to run your own private forks. Forever. If you have specific questions about this, send me a DM. I’ve done this but it wasn’t easy. Makes upgrades difficult. And is not something I’d recommend to most people.
