We import goods from overseas suppliers and bill in a foreign currency. The Purchase Order is raised with the exchange rate on the PO date. The container usually arrives 1-2 months later, and by then the exchange rate is very different.
When I create the Purchase Receipt from the PO, it carries over the PO’s exchange rate instead of the rate for the receipt’s posting date. As a result, stock valuation in company currency is wrong.
What I’ve found so far
- Buying Settings has “Use Transaction Date Exchange Rate”, but it only applies to the Purchase Invoice, not to the Purchase Receipt.
- Manually editing the exchange rate on every Purchase Receipt works but is easy to miss.
- I have a custom script that fetches the rate on the posting date. I’d like to avoid maintaining a customization if a standard option exists.
Question: Is there a standard setting or recommended process so that a Purchase Receipt made from a PO uses the exchange rate for its own posting date, without custom code? If not, what do you recommend (for example Landed Cost Voucher, or a different workflow) to correct the valuation?
Thanks!
