Sales Order is set to blank in Production Order

On creation of a new Production Order I selected a Sales Order and then proceed to select an Item to Manufacture. On selection of the Item the Sales Order field is set to blank. Is this by design or a bug?

You should rather select an Item first and then select a Sales Order.

Thanks for the clarification.
But then would’nt the logical way be to select the Sales Order and then the Item in the Sales Order?

If you are creating it based on Sales Order, then you can create it from the Sales Order itself.

Sales Order > Menu > Create > Production Order
