Bash installer for Frappe v15/v16 and ERPNext on Ubuntu

I published a bash installer for a Frappe v15 or v16 bench with ERPNext on Ubuntu.

It is for developers who want a bench for app work, and for teams that keep standing up staging or single-site production servers. A first run is usually 15–40 minutes.

What it covers:
- Python via uv (3.11 on v15, 3.14 on v16) and Node.js 24 via nvm
- MariaDB 10.6+ for v15, MariaDB 11.8 for v16
- Development with bench serve, or production with Nginx, Supervisor, and Let's Encrypt
- A config file for non-interactive installs

Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04, 24.04, and 26.04 are supported for Frappe v15 and v16. Ubuntu 26.04 uses its own MariaDB 11.8 packages. Ubuntu 20.04 installs MariaDB 11.8 from the MariaDB archive for v16.

If you try it, please open an issue with your Ubuntu release, Frappe version, dev or production, and the first error if something fails. That is the feedback that will make the next run better.

Just tried it, looks cool but it’s a hard a bit to use I guess. It gave me an error installing app on an existing bench

Tried it on my ubuntu 26 didn’t work, and on ubuntu 24 gave me an error that’s why I worked on that script. Give it a try.

Thanks for the feedback @omarrtarek29. Can you share me the error or raise a GH issue under httpsL://github.com/vyogotech/vybench?

Instead of having different scripts, we can work together to get a standard one that respects OS controls and still works.

@Varun

This script has worked well for me in the past. What’s important to me is that it’s compatible with Debian (the real open-source OS)

:wink:

I’ve also been working on enhancing the script to use an alternative databse server (which I think is an important feature).

Hi,

The vybench offers deb, snap and brew packages and works on debian. Difference between easy installation and this one is real package isolation, TUI and not requiring python to run the installer.
