Brand vs Item Group vs Custom Field

Hello everyone,

I wanted to pick your brain on something:

My customer has about 15 named “collections” to divide their product line into “style” groups.
Under each collection they have color variants for each stock item.
They want to use “collections” to organize products on their web site.

Is there a clear advantage or disadvantage to create “collections” using Brand vs Item Group vs a Custom Field.

With the newer version you can use website item doctype, which inturn allows you to use multiple website specifications for a single item like collection, occasion, etc. In item master this wouldn’t really matter because you don’t use it internally
