Creating function for Customized core doctype

I have customized the core doctype for example: Material Request. Now i need to write python functions for it without changing the code in the core python file.

I have no idea to achieve this. Kindly Help

In addition to scripts, you can use document hooks in a custom app to override the entire default class: Hooks
