Custom Translations via settings

I want to create an alternative translation of some modules in ERPnext in both the Website and Desk parts of the site. Documentation on generating a new translation is quite good, but since it’s only a limited number of strings that should be translated, I was looking into the possibility of using the interface. My problem is that there is hardly any documentation available. Some questions I have:

  • Do the translations apply to already translated strings or only custom strings in product descriptions etc?
  • Can I provide alternative translations for the English language?
  • What is the source data I provide?
