Dealing with backorders and partially filled orders

Hi,

I've done some searching and testing of ERPnext, but I'm struggling to figure out how to handle and document the processes around handling back-orders or partially filled orders. 

Does ERPnext have any in-built capability to manage backorders, and what Doc-Type is the "parent" for this information where we should be looking for information on partially filled orders so that we can complete those orders at a later date.

Further to this, what doc-type should we be looking to print where we can display shipped items and back-ordered items in the same view?

Hello Paul,

Backorders can be managed via Sales Order in ERPNext.

Sales Order is the transaction against which progress of delivery and billing can be tracked. You can make full/partial Delivery Note and Sales Invoice against Sales Order.

You will see delivery and billed status for a Sales Order on the Sales Order list itself.

Also, there are reports in Stock and Accounts module you can refer to track backorders.

Stock >> Reports >> Ordered Items to be Delivered
Accounts >> Reports >> Ordered Items to be Billed
