Default Asset Account for Item

I have two types of raw material: Ingredients and Packaging.
Both are stored in the same warehouse, but they need to be linked to different asset accounts.

I was expecting to set the default asset account within the item group, but I don’t see a field for that—bummer.
I also don’t want to create a fake logical warehouse just to handle this.

Surely I’m not the first one with this requirement?

Warehouse is linked with Asset inventory account but not item.

Item carries income and expense GL accounts within and can be mapped either with item group, brand or company level globally.

I specifically need to assign different GL Asset accounts to each item type, while keeping them in the same warehouse.
