This might be a great idea to put in “immutability” but in the end this ERP is meant for small business that go from excel to an accounting package that can also do some great stuff like CRM, Inventory etc.
Closing periods, Revaluation … Seems so complex that this proposed change will exclude small business owners out of any simple accounting conversation. [can’t follow anymore] and will become an accounting package for fortune 500 type of companies.
Most of us are not F500 type of companies. Can’t afford a full time accountant.
Again, ERPNext is a great productivity tool with decent accounting. Not a compliance tool. Although it’s current record level user permission allows some very fine grain control of what users can do.
Imagine a small business doing monthly close, quarterly close and yearly close… It will be a nightmare.
There are tools like HFM, EPM… that can provide consolidated reporting for compliance.
Alternatively
-
some how if we could have 2 set of books : statutory and transaction. One for super duper compliance and one for simple people.
-
make it optional / system level or company code level.
