Dock labels: tested on a production site, proposing an opt-in setting

Following up on this thread, since I think the feature is worth having in core.

I opened a feature request for it here: https://github.com/frappe/frappe/issues/44544

I also tried it on a production ERPNext site, without touching core. The title is already sent to the browser in frappe.boot.dock, so showing it under each icon only needs a small change in the Dock renderer (make_dock_item), plus a slightly wider dock. Labels go through __(), so they follow the Desk language automatically. I tested it with an Arabic (RTL) desk and it works well.

Why I think it matters:

  • Icons alone are hard to learn once a site has custom apps or modules
  • It helps most on non-English and RTL desks
  • The clean icon-only look can stay as the default, with labels as an opt-in setting

If you’d like to see this, a :+1: on the GitHub issue or a short comment with your use case helps the maintainers judge the interest. I’m also happy to work on a PR if the approach sounds right.
