DocType Layout - Only Move Fields, Cannot Edit Fields?

Hello,

I recently discovered, via this forum, the DocType Layout tool but it doesn’t seem to function well. I can move existing/newly added fields but cannot edit them in anyway. So they are

Very frustrating.

Is there any way to use this tool that I’m missing or is it not functioning correctly in my install?

Hey Paul,

What are you trying to edit in the layout? The fields themselves are defined in the DocType record (or if you’re dealing with customizations, then they can also be found in the Custom Field record), so that would be the place to edit them ideally.

I’m trying to edit the Purchase Order DocType.

So do I have to edit visibily of all the items I want to hide (which is probably 3 of the 4 pages of form items) by customising the Purchase Order DocType first, then use the DocType Layout option to make the custom layout I need?

It seems a very laborious way to do things, I was hoping to would be the same as the Web Page view where you could add the fields and Section/Column breaks as needed, instead of having to hide every single item I don’t want to appear to the end user.

Is there any other easier way to achieve this?

For now, that’s the way to do it, but I think your expected approach is pretty reasonable. You could create an issue on the Github repository and hopefully someone on the Frappe team (or someone from the community) can pick it up.

If I have some time later, I can try look into it too.
