ERPNext Asset Module Setup for Real Estate Projects

Hi everyone,

We are a real estate development company (not manufacturing or production).

I have already completed the Accounts setup in ERPNext
(Chart of Accounts, CWIP, depreciation, taxes, stock-related accounts, etc.).

Now I want to configure the Assets module properly for a real estate / project-based environment.

My questions are:

  • What are the mandatory settings for the Assets module?
  • How should CWIP be handled before capitalization?
  • Any best practices for assets in real estate projects?

Any guidance or checklist would be really helpful.

I’m not sure about your asset question, but you may get more detailed help if you list more about the properties and how income is generated. Are you building for sale, renting, etc?

You may consider including projects for tracking expenses vs capital improvements. I think you may get more control by creating custom doctypes for the properties.

I haven’t evaluated any of the following, but I saved some Real Estate custom apps.

Just to confirm, my question is specifically about the Asset Module settings for fixed assets in ERPNext (Asset Categories, CWIP settings, depreciation accounts), not about real estate units built for sale.

We are a real estate development company, but here I’m only configuring fixed assets used by the company itself (equipment, vehicles, office assets, IFRS 16 assets).
