ERPNext for pharmaceutical lab

Hi,

A pharmaceutical lab might be using ERPNext to manage their lab, including the production process. Is there a way to integrate ERPNext in such a way that the production equipment cannot be used unless certain data, such as fingerprint, date, and time, are entered into ERPNext?

I suppose the first thing I would evaluate is whether there are python libraries available that can allow you to communicate with the PLC/DCS controlling the production equipment
