ERPNext Telegram Group vs Discuss Forum

We have been having multiple channels of communications for ERPNext support and discussions. I feel that having communication on Telegram allows quick interaction on the cost of loosing the data to improve on the ideas discussed there and not allowing human or automated review of messages for task management for improving the product or fixing existing issues.

Would it be better to have few moderators move comms from Telegram manually (till somebody finds an automated way to move threads as discuss threads)?

As discussed on Frappeverse, maybe there are some plans to use Gameplan instead.
I think this is the right time to explore how to improve community comms … Many people feels that discuss is losing strenght, probably due AI -people uses it to research instead login and contribute- and new generations behavior with this kind of forum shape (:joy:).

Huge knowledge trough thousand of posts here should be preserved anyway. Probably Gameplan lets do it, even using discuss as KB or something like that.

I often create a post here in the forum, link it in a telegram message, then post back on the forum with solution if found.

Would be interesting automate this kind of things, integrating discuss (or GP / whatever) forum with TG and other channels …

Why not Discord? Twenty has a vibrant community there, and frankly, it’s pulling me towards potentially going the twenty route vs Frappe…

Most of us should just start using discuss more often, specially for meta and community discussions. That will make it more active and interesting.

  • Guides? Youtube (and its usually BWH)
  • Docs? Frappe docs (and its dead ancestor links), and just hope the app you’re interested in is actually documented
  • Product Keynotes? 20h+ Live Youtube sessions, sometimes blog
  • Announcements? Discuss forums, blog, or some random comment on a random post
  • Monthly updates? GitHub, BWH on YouTube, sometimes blog
  • Case Studies? Frappeverse livestreams, Frappe build, frappe io, blog
  • Bugs? Github, Telegram, Discuss
  • Community Resources? Github (Everything Frappe), Frappe Marketplace, Discuss
  • Chat? Telegram, Raven, Gameplan
  • 101 Resources? Frappe School, Youtube
  • Something Else? Try looking for LinkedIn posts by Frappe team, some announcement on Frappe Cloud, Some comment on a Github Issue.

Ok watch this 20h live stream from this year and few others from last year, keep an eye on our PRs, check this blog post and maybe that comment on LinkedIn. Also forgot to mention, some of the apps are poorly documented, you can try checking doc files in their repos, maybe some questions on forums, ask on telegram or just check YouTube you might find something useful…

Frappe community has grown rapidly, but community management is still lacking behind. I mean the biggest Frappe event was few days ago and there is yet to be an article about what’s new or what changed (or maybe there is but no one knows where)

Prioritize discuss over everything and automate the rest.

Announce something here and automatically publish to blog and other social media channels (Telegram, Discord, X, Reddit) via bots.

Provide subforums for guides, apps, hiring, ops, cloud, case studies, etc…

Support up-to-date monthly/yearly/versioned megathreads and compiled resource lists

Feature videos, guides, articles and content-creators like Buildwithhussein, commit company, etc…

Automatically post a thread for new videos by official YouTube channel / featured creators.

Report a bug here and automatically create an Issue in GitHub (or the other way around)

With tens of product managers working across tens of different apps and with this pace of development every scattered resource is becoming stale so quick that the framework is getting unnecessarily complex to understand..

While most of pre-v15 stuff are now completely stale, since almost everything changed, this forum remains the most valuable resource Frappe Framework has. Reorganize it to match the current demands of the framework and then adapt it fully by your team.

Thank you for this, genuinely, @Yamen_Zakhour - this is a thorough breakdown of just how scattered things have gotten. The volume is huge, and it does need to be organized.

Cross-posting is a good idea, and so is a guide to help people navigate Frappe’s discussions and content in the meantime, even before anything bigger changes.

Will think it through and come back to it, but centralizing around Discuss again looks like the right direction.

One question in the meantime: if you had to pick the single most important gap on that list, which would it be?

A bot that detects and deletes AI generated comments and posts :roll_eyes:

… and maybe up-to-date megathreads of compiled resources as well as better communication / presence from the Frappe Team.

Battle of AI’s … currently, moderators are the bots :slight_smile: A lot of posts and comments are reviewed daily …

Discuss forum is extremely useful training ground for LLM. I think a chat interface to the discuss forum on gameplan would help merge new-gen interaction with structed old data. Something like what we saw on helpdesk auto-learning, same could be applied here so that future helpdesk responses as well as the discuss forum chat interface would benefit from the data, TG will die as it will not be able to get any meanful feedback, when compared with teh chat-interface.

I think as long as the TG link is there in every Frappe app github people will keep on joining and asking questions
