Fetch From doesn't work if get itemsa from is used

Hi
I made custom field “Item Descrption” in Material Request doc. Fetch From field is set to item_code.item_description, so system should fetch value from item_description field in item doc.

It works(it will fetch) only if I manually type item code into material request table. If I use “get items from” then it will not fetch automatically.
" Fetch If Empty" is checked

The Item Description can be added to the Material Request by customizing the Material Request Item form , and checking In List View and Allow in Quick Entry check boxes, then Update. Would that work ?
