Fetching Long Text Field from Cutomer to Opportunity

We are trying to fetch Long Text Field from Customer to Opportunity through read only field (mentioning customer field to be fetched in option of opportunity field). But, whenever text is longer than 140 characters, it gives the message and don’t allow to save.

What can be the option to fetch field having text more than 140 characters?

Add custom field as Long Text field type on opportunity and mark it as read only.
