Frappe Builder is now MIT licensed 🎉

Hi everyone,

Quick announcement: Frappe Builder is moving from AGPL-3.0 to the MIT License, starting with v1.31.0.

Why

AGPL’s network-copyleft terms might have made companies’ legal teams wary of embedding or self-hosting Builder. MIT is simple and permissive, so this removes that friction. You can use, embed, and build on Builder with fewer strings attached.

  • From v1.31.0 onward: all new releases are MIT licensed.
  • Not retroactive: anything already published under AGPL-3.0 stays available under AGPL-3.0. This only applies going forward.

Thank you :folded_hands:

Relicensing meant getting sign-off from everyone who’s contributed to Builder. Thanks to all the community contributors who granted permission.

Happy building!

Hi @surajshetty

Is there any chance Frappe Builder, Studio and Print Designer can be merged (something like Suite)

Although they server different purposes I feel the front-end drag-and-drop ease-of-use makes a lot of components reusable

Thanks
