Frappe versus ERPNext

Hello,
I have been using ERPnext for a while now and am wondering what the difference is between using ERPnext and the seperate Frappe applications.

For example, how is the accounting software in ERPnext different from Frappe Books?

Frappe Books is not built with Frappe Framework.

It is built with frappejs. It is not the same python framework used for ERPNext.

Thanks for your reaction. Is that the case with all the seperate frappe applications that they are built on frappejs: for example Frappe HR and Frappe healthcare?

Thank you for your response. I get that Frappe is the framework and ERPnext the application, but I mean specifically the seperate apps.

ERPNext has for example a HR module, but at the same time there is also a seperate Frappe HR application. I am wondering what the differences are between the frappe applications and the modules in erpnext.

Still very much interested in an answer to this question.

What’s the difference between the ERPNext HR module, and separate Frappe HR software. Are these completely distinct pieces of software? Or do they share common functionalities/codebase?

Hi,

Till Version-13 HR was the part of ERPNext as one module. From Version-14 frappe started splitting the apps from ERPNext. So, from version-14 onwards, HR can be used as standalone application and can be installed with ERPNext to tightly integrate with accounting if required.

Hope this is clear.

Thanks,

Thanks! That’s very helpful. So this means, that the ERPNext HR module and Frappe HR are very similar in terms of functionality and deciding between the two is just a question of “Do I ONLY need HR or do I need a full ERP?”, right?

Correct.

I’ve set up ERPNext locally and also installed/enabled Frappee HR for it. I didn’t really see a way to ONLY install Frappee HR, it always seems to require ERPNext as a base. So I am curious: Is this even possible? How does a “Frappe HR” only install look? Does it only have “Human Resources” in the main menu?

I’ve answered my own question, by setting up a trial account for Frappe HR in the cloud. So now I have both versions next to each other. In case anyone has the same question, this is how both versions compare visually:

Sorry, I can only add one media item per post, so here’s a second post with the second screenshot.
