We’re using ERPNext and want to start utilizing the serialized inventory feature. However, we’ve encountered a challenge:
In our business, we deal with electronics and home appliances from various manufacturers. Sometimes, different items come with identical serial numbers provided by the manufacturers, which are crucial for warranty purposes and are heavily printed on the products. ERPNext requires serial numbers to be unique across all items, but we need them to be unique only within the same item.
Generating new serial numbers isn’t an option since we must track the original manufacturer serials for warranties and after-sales service.
Has anyone faced this issue? Is there a way to configure ERPNext to allow serial numbers to be unique per item rather than globally unique? What are the best practices to handle this scenario in ERPNext?
We are using ERPNext v15
