It is a must if your item is configured as a batched or serialised item!
you can enable/disable it when you are creating the item master under the inventory tab.
But keep that in mind, this setting can not be changed if you have started any transaction on the item.
this is a fundamental configuration for creating any item.

There is an setting for that in the Stock Settings. Something like “Show Batch Selector”.
