We are currently implementing ERPNext for an industrial customer and are looking for recommendations regarding handheld barcode/QR scanners for floor workers.
Use case
- Operators scan QR codes and barcodes during warehouse and production workflows
- Each scan should be sent directly to an ERPNext REST endpoint
- Ideally, the device should support direct authentication (API key + secret or token-based auth)
- At minimum, each request should include a device/scanner ID for traceability
- Wi-Fi is available throughout the facility
- Immediate feedback is required after each scan (sound/vibration, and ideally confirmation that the request was successfully processed by ERPNext)
- The environment is industrial, so devices must be rugged and reliable
- Ease of use is very important (minimal training, simple UI, stable scanning experience)
- Budget is a factor, but the customer is open to higher-end devices if there are strong operational reasons
We are also considering using tablets with ERPNext in a browser and relying on the built-in camera for scanning. However, due to the industrial environment (gloves, oil, dust, general wear and tear), this does not seem like the most reliable option. Keyboard wedge scanners for the same reasons also not really the favorit option. Are there other options you can think of?
Has anyone implemented a similar setup in production with ERPNext or Frappe? What are your experiences?
