Inventory Item Details

Hello,

I am new to ERPNext. I am facing issues in terms of the individual inventory item in my warehouse.

1. I have a Product with inventory items purchased at different times. E.g. my product is called - Tomato Juice Concentrate - 1 ltr. bottle

1.A. I have purchased an inventory with Lot No. TJC101 - total quantity 100 bottles Purchased in Jan 2014
1.B. Second inventory of the same product was purchased with Lot No. TJC102 - Total quantity 500 bottles Purchased in Feb 2014

I am struggling with the following:

1. When I see Inventory reports, my inventory total is 600 bottles but I can't differentiate between TJC101 and TJC102.
2. Is there a way that I can sell TJC102 to a specific customer since the color of this lot is what my customer wants, provided my inventory valuation method is FIFO.

Appreciate your advise to map this requirement within ERPNext without customization. Creating different products is a possible solution I can think of, but my inventory items run in thousands across multiple warehouses.

Thanks in advance.

Sarang

Depends on how your want your reports. Different products is the best solution. Thousands of items is normal. @Aditya Duggal has been clamouring or a variant manager, but we havn't got there yet.

or

You can add custom fields for colour etc and make a bunch of reports based on those filters.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Rushabh,

I was wondering if Serialized inventory can be used to select the required lot for a Sales Order? BTW color was just one of the parameters, in reality, there are atleast 5-6 major chemical parameters involved.

If I am able to use Serialized inventory, I will be saved on an effort of managing thousands of products, is it?

Appreciate your response.

Don't see the difference - you manage either multiple serialized items or multiple item codes!

The key is also to have a good codification logic so you can easily create / search / standardize items.

Appreciate your response.
