Item Code Allocation for Small Jobs and Accounting for Small Consumables in BOMs

Hi,
We do large format digital printing among other sign production work.
1.  Do we have to assign an Item Code to each printing job, big or small?
2. Then do we have to prepare a BOM for Media and Ink? Ink usage is not much but at the end of the day stocks should balance.
We charge for print by Square Foot rate and know ink usage rate per Square Foot given by machine manufacturer. Is there better/easy way to document it.

Hi JD,

From what I have understood is that if you have like 3 print qualities then you should create 3 item codes with UoM as sq-ft. Now you could define the pricing for each type of print quality in Price list as 10, 20 and 30.

So when a customer comes and asks for Print Quality A then you enter the item code for that print and enter the size of the print which would be like 5 sq-ft and price would automatically come as 10/- given a total of 50/-

Regarding the BOM for Media and Ink, honestly I am not an expert since I don't use BOMs myself but I guess if you are not wanting to make stock entries at the end of day then BOM would be good and you could define the amount of ink consumed in each print quality per sq-ft and when that print is delivered I guess the ink would be deducted automatically from your stock.
