Manage Stock In/Out Without Purchase Order or Sales Invoice?

Hello,

We are a machinery manufacturing firm with over 2000 items in raw materials, sub-assemblies, and 85+ SKUs. We are using ERPNext for stock management and other department activities but not for accounting.

We have several activities involving items:

  • Used for manufacturing
  • Used in machinery servicing (repairing)
  • Consumed during machinery manufacturing
  • Directly sold items

We want to manage stock without creating purchase orders or sales invoices. Specifically, we need to:

  • Inward stock: Manage material receipts without creating purchase orders.
  • Outward stock: Manage material consumption for manufacturing or servicing without creating sales invoices.

Is the “Material Consumption for Manufacture” feature the best way to manage outward stock in this scenario? And how can we handle inward stock receipt without a purchase order?

Hi,

You can use the Stock Entry for this. You can select different type for various needs, like for Stock Receipt, select “Material Receipt”, for Stock Outward select "Material Issue.

I tried using Stock Entry with the types “Material Receipt” and “Material Consumption for Manufacturing.”

After adding entries with “Material Issue,” the stock reduces or gets transferred to another warehouse.

I want to know: Is this the best way to manage stock? By “best way,” I mean if I decide to use all features of ERPNext in the future, is this the right step to set things up?

Hi,

You can start using the ERPNext this way and later in future you may start using Purchase Receipts and Sales Delivery for manage stock.
