Hi there! I am considering implementing ERPNext v15 as the main system to track orders, sales, and stock for my business. My primary product is plywood, and it comes with several attributes:
- Thickness
- Width
- Length
- Grade
- Glue
- Specie
- Surface
- FSC Certification
My Challenges:
- Unit of Sale:
All sales and purchases are conducted in cubic meters, not by packs or panels. For example, a pack of 12mm plywood (1525x1525mm) contains 33 sheets, resulting in a total volume of 0.9209 cubic meters. However, vendors often round this number differently (e.g., 0.92 or 0.921), and this rounding needs to be respected in Purchase Orders and Sales Orders due to customs precision requirements. - Pack Management:
- Each pack contains a varying number of panels, depending on the thickness and manufacturer.
- Occasionally, packs are opened and repacked. For example, a 33-panel pack may be split into 20 panels and 13 panels.
- Future Stock Management:
While most sales are dropship (back-to-back), I plan to manage stock in the future. - Ease of Use:
I aim to minimize customizations to keep the system straightforward for my team.
Questions for the Community:
- Organizing Items:
How would you recommend organizing plywood items in ERPNext given the attributes above? Would you use item variants, custom fields, or another approach? - Pack and Volume Tracking:
- How do you handle cases where the volume per pack differs slightly due to vendor rounding?
- Any suggestions for tracking opened and repacked packs efficiently?
- Unit of Measurement:
Have you found a good way to manage alternate UoMs (e.g., cubic meters, packs, panels) with proper conversion in ERPNext?
