Marketplace Working Group, the story till now

At Frappeverse last year, we decided on the Working groups concept and Marketplace was the first one of them. It started with some noise, but soon things started to slow down and then died. No more weekly catch up calls, no more progress.

How it started?

At the Frappeverse 2025 stage, where we stood in front of the entire community and tried not to kill the child. I was hopeful. We also setup regular calls (Umair also joined sometimes), repository for planning, community chat, and more. Rahul even aligned Sai from their team to help us with ops like notes/updates etc.

What went wrong?

It was a result of multiple things IMO:

  1. Rahul and I, both quickly lost bandwidth and dropped the balls. Rahul got busy with managing sales side of their newly setup ERPNext wing’s client, I got busy with growing BWH.
  2. The plan was that someone from rtCamp will be aligned for development and I was to just plan and oversee it. I assumed it would be someone experienced. When a fresher was aligned (after a few weeks of brainstorming and calls), I did a few rounds of PR reviews, but it was just too much effort and I quickly lost interest.
  3. I requested the rtCamp team (@LiyakatAli) if they could spare someone for L2 review, then I could do L3, but they were packed too. Neither I had anyone from BWH to spare.
  4. Then started the death spiral of answering “No” to the weekly call invites

Net-net bandwidth and motivation were gone.

What next?

I would like to thank everyone at the working group (specially @KanchanChauhan who showed up in all calls!) and sorry I could not “lead” it anywhere. I will be leaving this working group and I don’t think I have made any meaningful contributions as well.

I have taken a different route and I am focusing on contributing by doing what I am good at: education and evangelism.

I think the show must go on and if this working group has to work out, someone has to step up and own it. It could be rtCamp or some collaboration, not sure.

New Marketplace is already out there?

I think the speed of agentic development changes a lot of things. I can see Marketplace taking a whole different direction (with the new bench and everything) than I had imagined. For instance, check this LinkedIn post by Ajit (from LUBUS):

P.S. @prathameshkurunkar7 is also now owning Marketplace from Frappe side now and has made significant improvements in the “verification” phase.

yeah workgroups died so early .l dont think workgroup were different from the forum . So one cannot leave what is already paying him them come and discuss with others where no money will come and it can be time consuming so one can spare only few minutes but not to deeper . But l think if we had a bigger coomunity it would make a difference . So we should focus on increasing size of our community by putting a lot of resources out there for new developers who want to use Frappe . Its quite difficult to get onbaord to get info on frappe . there are no clear steps . At our organisation we do odoo and frappe and we have seen there are not enough resources for frappe online compared to odoo and we are not sure if it was done deliberately but l think it kills the product rather than benefiting it .

As far as I can see ALL the working groups in the community.frappe.io are dead

Telegram is a little more active

I guess the community must take ownership of the community
