I am looking for a way to merge together multiple Item Groups. I am working with a system that is already established and the Item Group Tree requires cleaning. Anyway this is possible?

You can do it by selecting item (with the checkbox) and in the “Action” blue button select “Update”.
This mean you have to made it for each item you want to change Item Group, there is no tools to do it from Item Groups
