Negative stock will not be allowed if perpetual inventory is activated. Because as there are no stock available, we do know the cost of items to book expense automatically at the time of delivery.

I know this is quite an old thread. I have been looking into impacts of setting negative stock in ERPNext. Reason is because our company uses just in time manufacturing and sometimes we need to use stock ahead before it goes through these stock entries.
I installed v10.0.7 and both Enable Perpetual Inventory and Stock Settings - Negative stock at same time. So wondering when this constraint will be implemented as it may impact us.
What exactly do you mean with “this constraint” …
I still have a lot of negative stock…for various reasons…and it has not affected the system. Of course am not able to valaluate stock
We strongly recommend to disable perpetual inventory system, if you are going to use negative stock feature. Because in case of negative inventory, valuation rate is not calculated correctly in some cases and perpetual inventory is totally depends on correct item valuation.
Thanks for your reply. But will this impact any posting… or is just reporting numbers incorrectly in the valuation column? Which exactly is the report or screens you meant by valuation rate is not calculated correctly.
Also I realised if we were to disable perpetual inventory system, it wont work for us as it seems like it will not post entries correctly. Actually under what circumstances will one disable this.
