Hi, I am a newbie with ERPNext.
I am importing purchasing invoices from my old legacy system via excel. I downloaded the template. But when I import the excel, the import becomes successful but the rate of the item is not getting imported.
As a result, there is no amount against each imported invoice. Further also not able to import the tax figures.

Try saving the populated file as csv. Then choose csv option in the data import app. This could be due to encoding preferences on your system.
I am not sure if this will fix your issue, but you should give it a try.
I am downloading csv template and importing the same.
The problem still persists.
Could you post a detailed description with screenshots (steps you took) and some sample populated fields.
