Outlook email setup

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to set up an Outlook email account with my professional mail. I created Outlook for my professional mail and I created an app password as well. When I try to set up the email account using this information, I get this error: 'Please check your email login credentials.

you can refer below image

Please help me regarding this, thank you in advance.

Any suggestions?

Hi @Yaswanth_Kumar_Dasar:

You mean M365 account?
Microsoft deprecated Basic auth time ago … so you will need to use OAuth

See this:

Hope this helps.

@avc @Meet Is OAuth the only way? Doesn’t it allow you to configure it by application password like all the others by activating two-step authentication?

For me as an advanced user, I find it a nightmare to configure OAuth, I can imagine for an end user.

Hi @federico_calvo:

Since Microsoft (and Google…) disabled basic authentication support, OAuth is mandatory …

I agree … pretty complicated, even for tech users …

Only SMTP is allowed under certain circumstances … but seems it will be no longer supported shortly.

Hope this helps.

@avc I didn’t know about google, we have most of our customers, and our google accounts working with the application password with no problem.

If they go this way, I hope it will be infinitely easier than Microsoft or having the mails in the ERP will be a luxury that only a few will be able to afford.

I’m going to read in detail the article you passed but it will take me a while.

Thanks!

Aquí estamos

@avc and one last question where maybe you can understand better, are hotmail/outlook accounts outside of what is considered office 365/microsoft 365?

Say, non-business accounts, do they also have to go through this process?

Hi @federico_calvo:

As far I know, Microsoft has deprecated basic auth for personal mail too by last September …
