What version are you on and when did you encountered this error? Little more info on the error is always helpful in troubleshooting.

currently on 6.27.23

i ran the following commands, which had worked before and doesnt work today.

sudo apt-get update

curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_6.x -o nodesource_setup.sh
sudo bash nodesource_setup.sh
sudo apt-get install -y nodejs build-essential libffi-dev libssl-dev python-dev

pip install --upgrade pip setuptools psutil

sudo pip install cryptography
exit

restart container
LOGIN AGAIN

su frappe
cd ~/bench-repo
git pull origin
cd ~/frappe-bench
bench update --upgrade

any progress in this? just tried updating again and same error
