Plans for the Agriculture module, and is anyone building a standalone agriculture app?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to check something with the community before I start building, so this is part question, part heads-up.

As far as I can tell, the Agriculture domain was moved out of ERPNext core into its own app (frappe/agriculture) around v14, as part of the de-monolith effort. Since then, it doesn’t look like it’s been actively developed, there are no tagged releases, the docs themselves caution that compatibility with current ERPNext / Frappe Framework versions shouldn’t be assumed, and the open PRs are mostly attempts to get it running on newer versions.

So, two questions:

  1. Is there any plan on the Frappe side to pick the Agriculture module back up- either bringing frappe/agriculture back to life for current versions, or a rewrite? Or has it been effectively shelved?

  2. If not, is anyone in the community already working on a standalone agriculture app on the Frappe Framework? Even a fairly simple take on it would be useful — I’m not thinking of an ERPNext module. I’d much rather contribute to something that already exists than duplicate the effort.

Why I’m asking: I’m part of a farmer co-operative and our team is planning to build an agriculture app on the Frappe Framework as a standalone app, and to release it back to the community as open source once it’s in a usable state. The scope I have in mind is deliberately simple to start with — Farm → Plot, labour attendance, income and expenses, and activity tracking against the plot. Nothing heavy like crop-cycle costing, traceability or analytics in the first version. Before I put months into it, I want to make sure I’m not stepping on work that’s already underway, or on something Frappe has planned internally.

If you’re working on something in this space, or you know of a project, fork or private effort I’ve missed, I’d be glad to hear from you. I’m happy to collaborate, to build on top of an existing codebase, or at a minimum, to keep whatever I build aligned with the direction the community would prefer.
