Private/files folder filling with .json.gz files

Since upgrading to ver 15 noticing many files per day ending in .json.gz

What are they for? Can they be deleted? Appear to be some sort of temporary report file not being deleted automatically.

Yes, these .json.gz files can be deleted if they are old and not needed. They are generated by reports/background jobs and are not critical once used.
