Can anyone please explain the use case of this “Customer Code” small text type field in the item? It’s currently hidden though, but was just curious about the purpose of this field on the form.

Some customers demand a unique product number. Often this is to prevent being cut out as the middleman. They don’t want to lose their customers to their suppliers.
When customers want you to provide a product ID, you can use the field.
A fabrication shop that makes items to order, for example, would create an Item, BOM etc with their Item code and during different steps in manufacture and delivery and billing attach the customer’s code for reference and identification.
Incase of Contracted Manufacturing, customer provided items are also need to be identified with customer codes. The same customer code will have also to be printed on invoices, deliveries and other related documents subsequently for easy identification for customers ease.
