Putaway rules - is this no more than sub-warehouses?

I am looking to track goods within warehouse and this would also provide additional informaiton when come to picking

From what i have read and understand about Putaway rules - but this is merely about allocating goods to warehouse or sub-warehouses, where sub-warehouse naming convention can be used to descibe rack / shelves / storage location - is this correct? which could become very messy if you have hundreds of racks/shelves in a warehouse.

You might want to look at inventory dimensions, which enable you to define racks/aisles/bins etc as dimensions, instead of needing to create multiple warehouses (which as you mention can get unwieldy).

thanks @DCRob, yes that could help. Shame putaway rules are unable to make decisions using inventory dimensions (without customization)
