Re: [erpnext-dev] Preview: Responsive UI

Hello everyone,

We have released the Responsive UI and new calculation code on our test account. We would be grateful to have your feedback on this.

You can login to https://testacc.erpnext.com using username=de...@erpnext.com and password=demo

You will find some bugs, since this is still an alpha release. And we would like you to report them to us, via github issues or via forums.

Thanks,
Anand Doshi.

Hi Aditya,

This was a design decision we had to take. The going back to listing is already achieved using the icons on the top right corner.

Going to module pages can be done by going to the desktop and then clicking on the module icon (two clicks, I know :( ).

Removing those icons cleared up some space and helped to lighten the feel of the UI. I know it seems to be a change in the wrong direction, but I also used to use that feature and now I don't, and yet it doesn't feel cumbersome.

Thanks,
Anand.

Dear Friends,
Tried the new UI.
mixed Feelings.
Looks good, but shall low scores for adaptability. Plus many new errors / bugs found.
Plus, Unlearning earlier UI and Learning again the new UI will be a taxing excercise for not-so-savy users (in my case, godown people are hardly 12th pass, but are operating erpnext like so very nicely ! )

My personal Opinion, once it comes out of the alpha state and when its about time to deploy, I think the developers should also consider puttinga switch, unticking the same shall switch the user back to the "current" UI

Best Regards,
Mahesh

Hi Mahesh,

We do expect that there will be some difficulties in adapting at an earlier stage. But the old UI was not mobile compatible.

They key areas of change are the grid and navigation. The current UI is much more predictable in case of buttons and navigation. They have shifted, yet they are in similar position as you find in any native application.

With these new changes, we were able to implement keyboard driven data entry too. It is still not upto the mark, but it is start.

But these changes are radical and hence, cannot be available side by side with the old UI. It is simply inefficient to work with two code bases. Hence, we can't have a switch that allows both the old and the new UI.

I suggest that you ask your users to try the new UI, but with fresh eyes :D. I believe they will like it.

If you can point out specific instances where the old UI was much more usable and quicker, we can find alternatives to the features in the new UI.

Thanks,
Anand.

OK. Change is the only constant !
Lets gear up for the same.

The Item Table ( Tax Table ) et al was one of the most different change that I saw in the new UI.
Currently, we have a table with del, Ins, up, down buttons over the table.

The Item Row entry was horizontal, aligning to the viewer's logical state of mind about what next he has to enter.
The New UI shows the same in a exploded format, Good for really new users, but has the hassle of expanding a form, making navigation and a bottom top approach a little lengthier one.

Not a very big issue, just an observation. Just that the compactness and speed issue / adapting to the new UI will take a little longer time.

Just Sharing !

Regards,
Mahesh

Hi Mahesh,

We realise this. We are going to rearrange these fields so that most actionable fields move to the top of each row's form. We will also make section breaks in the grid to separate out info fields in it.

The up/down thing can be done by dragging the rows. This is much faster. Try it out :).

We were in a fix on how to implement grid/table in a mobile friendly way. So far this is the solution we have come up with. You are right to point out the superiority in speed with excel like data entry, but so far, it has not been mobile friendly.

Thanks,
Anand.

Firstly, congrats on the advances in erp next.

On a first look and feel - The responsive UI is really light and saves some clicks.

with time and more perusing, you will surely receive collective feedback, most of which would be positive.

Hi Anand,

Search, Open Link and Add new seems to be appearing on a separate line which seems to be taking a lot space. It will be good if they can be displayed next to each other (same as current version). I think i like the current version better compare to new one but that’s me only.

Hi Mayur,

This is a known bug, which appears to affect only Mozilla Firefox. We are looking for a workaround for this, if bootstrap 3 guys don't fix it before our release.

Thanks,

Hi Anand,

Search, Open Link and Add new seems to be appearing on a separate line which seems to be taking a lot space. It will be good if they can be displayed next to each other (same as current version). I think i like the current version better compare to new one but that's me only.
