Re: ERPNext Point-of-Sale, Customer Portal, Better Accounting of Inventory and Reseller Program

Hello everyone,

It has been more than 2 months since our last major release. After the release of the new User Interface, we have had a substantial increase in Trials, Forum activity and most remarkably, a boost in adoption by Open Source users. Many have migrated to websites generated from ERPNext.

This time, we are introducing:

  1. Point-of-Sale
This will be a boon to retail users, as well as anyone wanting to create invoices quickly. Read further at https://erpnext.com/pos

  2. Customer Portal
Empower your customers by giving them access to their order history. Read further at https://erpnext.com/portal

  3. Accounting of Inventory
Our first attempt at implementing Auto/Perpetual accounting of inventory wasn't perfect. It was still necessary to create adjustment entries at the end of a period. Also, there was no separation between Fixed and Current Asset values. We have redesigned the system so that inventory value and their corresponding account balance remain in sync.

    Read further at:
    1. http://erpnext.org/docs.user.stock.accounting_for_stock.html
    2. http://erpnext.org/docs.user.stock.perpetual_inventory.html

Existing Users: Accounting of Inventory will get deactivated. You need to follow these steps to migrate to the new system: http://erpnext.org/docs.user.stock.periodic_to_perpetual.html

This feature will be released on Tuesday, 24th September, 2013.

  4. Reseller Program
Buy ERPNext subscriptions at a discounted rate and sell them to your customers. Read further at https://erpnext.com/erpnext-reseller-program

We are also working on some core changes that will speed up ERPNext by about 10 times. It appears to be so fast in our development environment that we are feeling annoyed when using the current version. We hope to release it at the start of next month.

There is an interesting discussion going on in the forums about offering bounties for developing features. Some of our customers have started posting bounties on our github issues list

This is just so cool. They are prodding and pushing us to do better and have promised to chip in. We welcome any developer to try and get their hands on the bounties.

We also officially welcome three new team members Akhilesh, Priya and Pratik. See their profiles on the updated Company Page.

We would love to hear your feedback.

Best,
Anand Doshi.

PS:
On 20th September, 2013, we are hosting a workshop on Visualising Open Data. It will be conducted by Alex and Margo of OPEN-STEPS.org. For more info, see:https://erpnext.com/workshop-on-visualising-open-data

Hi... I really found it nice... In fact, we had tried this in past and raised certain issues. Unfortunately we have finalized on OPENERP.

But, I would say that it's really an appreciable effort, especially from Indian company. Where were you so far...

Hi Derek,

You can import BOMs in ERPNext using its CSV template. However, you will need to map fields from the exported file to ERPNext's fields.

You can post this question on our Developer Forum  A freelance developer could help you out to directly push BOMs from your CAD software to ERPNext using an API. This has already been done by a company called Fritzing (http://fritzing.org/).

Fred Blauer and Associates Inc., Canada (http://fblauer.com/) have been promoting ERPNext. They recommended us for Bossie Awards as one of the best Open Source Applications of 2013. You can approach them for any help.

Best,
Anand Doshi.

Thanks for prompt reply.

There are few things which we wish to know at this point of time.

1. Is it possible to integrate with Tally.
2. We wish to go for Rs.16,000 pack, but we want to create around 6 - 8 users and at a time 3 - 5 user will be logged in. Now in your pack it has mention 5 users (max), so it is little confusing, pl make it clear.
3. Can have a couple of your client name for our reference.

1. Is it possible to integrate with Tally.

Currently, it is not available. For now, you can import vouchers into ERPNext via spreadsheet file.
2. We wish to go for Rs.16,000 pack, but we want to create around 6 - 8 users and at a time 3 - 5 user will be logged in. Now in your pack it has mention 5 users (max), so it is little confusing, pl make it clear.

It is total users you can add in your ERPNext account. If you want to add 6-8 users, consider Enterprise Plan (INR 33,708) Small Business Plan won't work for you.
3. Can have a couple of your client name for our reference.
