Interesting that we are discussing OpenERP here.In the last year or so OpenERP has really taken off and all the best to them. Also interesting to note that they are keeping tabs our development. Just found out that they too have a "website" module in the works :). Its a happy validation for us considering we are nowhere compared to their presence in the market.I think the advantage ERPNext has is that it started much later and hence has a much cleaner and agile code base. Also OpenERP and OpenBravo and Compiere before it had their peaks when they got external funding http://www.google.com/trends/explore?q=compiere%2C+openbravo%2C+openerp#q=compiere%2C%20openbravo%2C%20openerp&cmpt=q. It appears Compiere and OpenBravo were not able to find a sustainable business model. From the looks of it, OpenERP might actually pull it off. But if it means higher prices for customers, then it will benefit upstarts like ERPNext.Either ways, we are happy to be competing with them - I am sure we can learn a lot from them and they from us. Thats the beauty of Open Source.best,Rushabh

For starters erpnext its a lot more easier to use especially for non technical users. Its developed in India so it takes care of most of our absurd ways of functioning. Minor customisations are easily possible and they can be done by people with non coding background. Very good support. Openerp has a vast network of partners but they come at a high price. They have a lot of custom modules developed and sold in their store but installing them is a big pain. I guess erpnext manages processes in the most simple way which in the long run is useful as all stakeholders like business owners, users, data entry staff etc. are happy.

I can define alternate UOM for individual items as many of our items sell
on Sq. Ft. basis and also on Number basis.
I tried my hands on Openerp for some time and this feature was available.
It is quite useful.

a unit and and processed and sold in different unit.
This could be useful only for selling also.

We need the exact some thing but I am still getting my hands around the
system. Infact, we maintain and sell stock in more than one alternate unit.
The base UOM (for rate/price) is (almost) always KG. Maybe it is already
there but we aren’t aware how to use. One point here is that every item of
ours can have a different conversion ratio from KG to say a
packet/ream/roll etc.
Maybe if some experienced user or a developer could enlighten us:)

much easier for me to understand the terminology used and charts of
accounts etc.
Secondly, I found openerp a little intimidating to use. Though the
interface is clean, certain options and configurations required going into
advanced settings which intimidated me as I don’t have any background in
programming. I personally felt it can get really difficult for
non-programmer to work with openerp. Time and again it would throw some
cryptic errors which I would not understand.
And the biggest problem with it is that a friendly support is non-existent.
It took me ages to understand how to install an outside module into
openerp. There are a lot of different modules for different versions out
there and searching them is a pain. There is no proper manual to use the
thing.
Erpnext on the other hand is extremely user friendly. Excellent support and
active development with regular updates. What more can a user ask for.

Thanks!

As you would have seen, the issues just keep piling on for us. We are doing the best we can given our resources. We also have to maintain quality with feature requests! Also a lot of good features are on the way - webshop + retail POS etc.

This is because of the discount value in Sales Order calculated upto 6
decimals because of no rounding in the previous version, and in the new
version, the discount is getting mapped for 2 decimals or more depending on
the Float precision set in Global Defaults.
So for now, set float precision to 3 or 4 and these error messages should
go away.

Firstly, my heartiest thanks to you and your team for creating ERPNext and
making it open-source.
I have taken a VPS server from BigRock and installation was a breeze using
the installer and clear instructions. Basically, I wanted to use it on my
own domain. Otherwise would have happily gone through with hosted
I did it myself, Google and some dedication helps a lot. I was completely
new to Linux, but it wasn’t hard.
I will write a blog soon as I go through it more.
I totally agree with the fact that more users will be so much better. I
have a computer science background but haven’t been very active since
school.
I have this thought of marketing and/or reselling ERPNext to all the small
businesses I can reach, maybe friends and family initially. I was wondering
how can that work out.
I surely have that in mind. All the money we spend in worthless software
licenses and extra staff, we can donate to suppor this great initiative by
you guys.
Thanks a lot for replying. I was wondering if you could nudge me on the
original concern I posted.

Thanks for sharing your experience and your kind words
Regarding HR - a lot of users have implemented HR though its not our strong
point (yet). In our company we don’t believe in time based work, so there
are no (or infinite) leaves and we don’t bother about attendance as long as
the work is done (we are a small company).
But we use Payroll very much - once you create the Salary structures, its
quite easy generate monthly salary slips. You can look it up in the manual.
Will let others share their experience.

Rushabh

The best place to post suggestions is on the GitHub Issues. This is a good
suggestion, but I am not sure we can get it done on priority.
